I mostly borrow Maggie Appleton’s terminology for the states of articles in her digital garden:

• “budding” (🌱) notes are brief and haven’t developed beyond the initial thought;
• “sapling” (🌿) notes are ideas which I’ve begun to develop but are very much in progress (and so aren’t fully written);
• “evergreen” (🌲) notes are ones which have developed fully;
• “ephemeral” (🍁) notes are ones which are in a constant state of change, and are never truly “finished”, such as the now page.
